The state of
agentic advertising

2026-10-07

We catalogue the live ad-tech agents — the MCP servers and AAMP/AdCP sales agents that AI uses to plan, buy, create and measure advertising. The pipes are being laid fast. But most run into walled gardens, few show their work, and almost none can prove what happened.

307
ad-relevant agents catalogued, of 11,389 MCP servers scanned
96%
expose a remote endpoint an agent can actually call
19.2%
run on an open standard (IAB Tech Lab's AAMP or AdCP)
4.2%
advertise any approval, log or read-only control

The industry map

Agents can act. Sellers are standardising.
Almost no one can prove.

Live agents by function. Buy-side tooling is crowded but mostly proprietary. Among the 19.2% that run on an open standard, sell-side agents lead.

Where the integrations go

Two economies: duopoly connectors vs. an open stack.

Meta and Google dominate the proprietary connectors; the open standards (AAMP + AdCP) are the only neutral ground, and they are still small.

Where the opportunity lies

We must make trust the default.

Neutrality

Who does the agent work for, and are incentives aligned?
1.9%
of buy-side execution agents sit on an open standard. The rest route into Google or Meta.

Transparency

Can an advertiser see what the agent did, why, and at what cost?
4.2%
advertise approval gates, previews, activity logs or read-only modes. The rest are black boxes.

Proof

Did it run where it claimed, and did it actually work?
6.8%
offer measurement or incrementality. On the open standards, delivery is reported by the seller's own agent.
METHODOLOGY11,389 MCP servers scanned across three registries (MCP-official, AdCP, AAMP). "Open standard" = registered on AAMP or exposing AdCP. Categories, platforms and open/proprietary signal are coded from each server's published name, description and live tools/list; counts reflect what servers claim, not audited behaviour. 247/258 ad-relevant endpoints answered a live probe. Deterministic + reproducible: src/registry-classify.js. Source harvest: mcp-registry-harvest-2026-10-07.csv.
WHAT THIS ISA weekly census of the agentic ad-tech market, run off the public registries. The three lists (market → ad-relevant → outreach) and these stats are regenerated from the same honest data every week, so the picture is auditable and trendable — not a one-off slide.
